Stairs.......Lots and Lots of Stairs.....

One of the things I have been doing in my preparation for the great wall is walking stairs.  I have my lovely stair buddy Noel, and we have been climbing the stairs at work.  For about 3 weeks now we have been doing this a few times per week.  Our work colleagues think we are crazy, but in our 15 minute walks I can feel my fitness levels increasing.  We are now managing to get to the top floor of our building which is 12 flights of stairs - it is still a hard slog, and I am not doing it too fast yet, but the pain in my legs from when we first started has eased.

It would be boring to show pictures of my works stair well, so here are some pictures of the great wall of china that I have taken from Google, this is my inspiration to keep training, working hard and I will conquer this in May 2016.

Peoples generosity astounds me!

When it comes to fundraising, I really am astounded by the generosity of some people.  It is very hard to try and continually expect support from my same group of friends, and I know that people can not always afford to support me with cash donations.  Well tonight I had my 16 year old god daughter and her family offer to make me some cakes to auction off for fathers day.  100% of the money raised in the auction will go to the NBCF fundraising, I offered to pay costs, but this is my friends contribution to my cause - Thank you so much guys, you have no idea how much I appreciate your help.

So tonight I have put up a Facebook auction to see how we go at raising some money, straight away we have had offers, which is completely awesome!!!!!

SPARKLES AND BUBBLES

Well my first fundraising event has just been created, and I have just sent out Facebook invites.  Can I say how much this stuff terrifies me - what if I don't get the numbers? what if people find my annoying? what if this is not what people want? I can tell you honesty that my anxiety levels are at an all time high right now, I barely slept last night!

For my first event, the wonderful people at Everett Brookes Jewellers have offered to give people a free clean of their jewellery, free Rhodium plating on White Gold, allowing people to hold gold and gems, and supplying champagne and nibbles to keep people entertained.  A donation of $20 to the NBCF is the entry fee.

I really hope this appeals to friends and friend of friends, I need between 15 and 25 people to come along for it to work!

Pushing through the pain barrier

So apart of walking the Great Wall of China is to get used to stairs.  Apparently there are lots and lots of them!

My training this week has consisted of walking up the stair wells in my work place.  Yesterday I went up 7 flights of stairs and then down again.  After the walk, my legs felt a little jelly but I was able to get on with me day.  Could someone have warned me however that I would feel pain for two days after...... oh my gosh, the pain!

So constructive words of advice from my work colleagues included 'try stretching more before you do it', 'Radox baths at the end of each day', 'try skipping steps to make the stride further apart'........

Ok, so I am not intentionally having a whinge, but damn I hurt!!!!! I will continue doing the steps because if I hurt now in the comfort of my own home, it will much worse in a different country with the knowledge that you are hitting the steps again the next day for 5 hours.

The Fundraising Starts - Chocolates.....give me strengeth to not give in!

Oh dear me, someone give me the strength to resist these boxes of yummy gooey chocolaty goodness!

My first order of fundraising chocolates arrived today, I have a bunch of wonderful friends who are going to take them to their work places and try and sell them.  If I sell all of the boxes, I should raise over $300 for the NBCF, so that will be a good start.

I am still to work out what my major event will be, if anyone has some suggestions on things that would be greatly appreciated, comment below and ill consider the options......

Getting some exercise!

Well one important point about me going to China is that I need to be fit!  So my fitness training has started.  I have been using a phone app called 'MapMyWalk' and I am finding it very useful to work out how far I have walked, my speed and kilojoules burned.  That combined with my fitbit and I am now a walking talking machine! (well I soon will be)

In my first walk I have done 4 walks over the 3km mark, even the other day I was surprised that just doing laps of my sons soccer oval while he trained added a couple of Km's to my day.

Today I did my first walk for the Corporate Cup which is an event supported by the 'Life Be In It' organisation.  My work helped with this one too by paying my entrance fees.

So today being day one of the event, I got to leave work and do a lovely stroll around the Torrens in Adelaide.  I had to lose a few minutes by stopping to take a selfie for this blog - I am seriously bad at trying to pose for photos taken by myself.

So as I now strive for personal fitness, stay tuned there is more to come! Carpediem!
